Which breast augmentation incision do you recommend?

There are three types of breast augmentation incisions to choose from - crease, axilla, and areola. Dr. Aldo recommends the crease incision for the vast majority of breast augmentation patients. Historically, this has been the most reliable breast augmentation incision and offers several advantages when compared to the axilla and areola incisions for the following reasons:

1. When compared to the areola, the crease incisions typically yield a much lower rate of capsular contracture. In fact, one study showed that capsule contracture could be as high as 9.5 times higher when implants are placed through the areola.
2. The crease incision is known for delivering the best cleavage after breast augmentation.
3. The axillary incision has the reputation of delivering breast implants that look too wide apart and a bit higher than average.

While all three incisions are offered, patients should carefully consider the differences in each option.

Do you recommend under or over the muscle for a breast augmentation?

In determining the best look for the patient, one can choose to have their breast implants placed under or over the pectoral muscle.

The most recommended placement is having it placed under the muscle as it has the most advantages. When breast implants are under the muscle, studies have shown softer and more natural-looking breasts, a lower risk of capsule contracture, and improved long-term results.

When implants are placed above the muscle, the capsule contracture rate can be as much as six times higher. To reduce the contracture rate with above muscle placement, we offer textured breast implants. Above the muscle placement offers advantages to only a small number of patients.
